ABB RVT Power Factor Controller – Product Feature

The ABB RVT Power Factor Controller is a user-friendly device purpose built for the modern industrial application.

In new installations, unbalanced loads are becoming ubiquitous. The RVT addresses power factor issues for both single phase loads and three-phase balanced/unbalanced loads, utilizing a wide range of “smart” features to correct power factor in a flexible, efficient manner.

The RVT can compensate each phase in an installation individually, or all three phases globally. Distinct to the RVT is its ability to make individual phase measurements.

Measurement capabilities are as follows:

  • Active power
  • Apparent power
  • Reactive power
  • Reactive power to reach target cosine
  • Voltage
  • Current
  • Cosine
  • Total harmonic distortion
  • and Voltage/Current harmonics

The RVT also doubles as a bank controller when a potential transformer is connected to the RVT’s voltage measurement inputs. With the proper settings, the unit is able to control low, medium and high voltage capacitor banks with ease.

The centerpiece of the RVT controller is a 3.5 inch color touchscreen display, making setup a breeze and simplifying parameter entry if adjustments are needed on the fly. Intuitive navigation allows the operator access to measurements, bank monitoring, communication specifics and settings, and the complete array of component settings that can be tailored to specific applications. Measurements, network information and capacitor bank information are all displayed in real time.

Built-in Ethernet capability allows the user to connect the RVT to a high level controller, and with the ABB PQ Link software, operators can communicate with the device anywhere in the world. A built-in USB port is available as well, so all RVT parameters are accessible on a computer if necessary.

The RVT Power Factor Controller operates from 100 VAC up to 460 VAC, can take voltage measurements up to 690 VAC (higher with a voltage transformer), and automatically adjusts to the network frequency between 45 and 65 Hz.

The standard version has an IP 43 protection degree, extended to IP 54 with an optional gasket accessory. Coupled with a wide operating range (-20° to 70°C) the RVT Power Factor Controller is suitable for harsh environments.
