NTE Electronics’ R58 Series Sub-Miniature Circuit Breakers – Product Spotlight

NTE Elecronics’ R58 Series Sub-Miniature Circuit Breakers are astoundingly compact circuit protection units that feature thermal trip characteristics in a simplified design. Measuring just under an 1.5 inches long and just over 0.6 inches wide, these circuit breakers are ideal for low load applications where space is at an absolute minimum.

At 25°C, R58 breakers will continuously carry 100 percent rated load (at either 50 VDC or 250 VAC), with an interrupt capacity at 2000 A (50 VDC) or 1000 A (250 VAC). They may trip between 101 and 144 percent rated capacity, and must trip at 145 percent rated capacity.

Resettable overload capacity is specified for 10 times the rated current.

15 different models are available, each with a different current rating from 1 to 35 A. Trip times vary depending on the amperage class.

For 1 to 4 A breakers, the trip time for each rated load is as follows:

  • 100 percent – No trip
  • 145 percent – Trip in 1 hour
  • 200 percent – 10 to 45 seconds
  • 400 percent – 3 to 14 seconds
  • 600 percent – 1.4 to 7 seconds
  • 800 percent – 0.75 to 4.3 seconds
  • 1000 percent – 0.5 to 3.4 seconds

For 5 to 35 A breakers:

  • 100 percent – No trip
  • 145 percent – Trip in 1 hour
  • 200 percent – 6 to 30 seconds
  • 400 percent – 1.6 to 4.5 seconds
  • 600 percent – 0.6 to 4.5 seconds
  • 800 percent – 0.25 to 0.9 seconds
  • 1000 percent – 0.15 to 0.65 seconds

A visual trip indicator will display whether the circuit is overloaded or not. The breaker is reset via pushbutton. R58 circuit breakers cannot be manually tripped.

With shock resistance up to 10 g and vibration resistance up to 10 g at 55 Hz, R58 circuit breakers can endure 1,000 cycles at 200 percent the rated load.
