NTE Electronics’ R59 Series Sub-Miniature Circuit Breakers – Product Spotlight

NTE Electronics’ R59 Series Sub-Miniature Circuit Breakers are remarkably compact circuit protection devices used to replace slow blow glass cartridge fuses. Measuring 0.76 inches square and just over 1.5 inches long, these circuit breakers offer robust circuit protection in applications where space is particularly spare.

At 25°C, R59 breakers will continuously carry 100 percent rated load (at either 32 VDC or 250 VAC), with an interrupt capacity at 1000 A for both voltage specifications.

On 0.25 to 2 A models, the R59 may trip between 101 and 174 percent the rated capacity, and must trip at 175 percent the rated capacity within one hour. On 3 to 20 A models, the circuit breaker may trip between 101 and 134 percent capacity, and must trip at 135 percent rated capacity within one hour.

Resettable overload capacity for each amperage class is: six times the rated current from 0.25 to 2 A, and ten times the rated current from 3 to 20 A.

14 different models are available, each with a different current rating from 0.25 to 20 A. Trip times vary depending on the amperage class.

For 0.25 to 2 A breakers, the trip time for each rated load is as follows:

  • 100 percent – No trip
  • 175 percent – Trip in 1 hour
  • 200 percent – 4.5 to 28 seconds
  • 400 percent – 1 to 6.5 seconds
  • 600 percent – 0.4 to 4 seconds

For 3 to 20 A breakers:

  • 100 percent – No trip
  • 135 percent – Trip in 1 hour
  • 200 percent – 2.2 to 15 seconds
  • 400 percent – 0.55 to 1.8 seconds
  • 600 percent – 0.27 to 0.7 seconds
  • 800 percent – 0.17 to 0.45 seconds
  • 1,000 percent – 0.12 to 0.3 seconds

Reset time on smaller load units occurs within 180 seconds max, and with 10 to 60 seconds on larger load units. A visual trip indicator displays the status of the R59, and is reset via pushbutton.
