700-class Ethernet switches share many features with 500-class switches, with the main differences being ports available and MAC address support. 700-class switches are also managed, and provide more control over the local area network with advanced features to control traffic.

Port configurations vary from 8 to 16 total ports. Models vary further with some combination of 10/100BaseTX RJ-25 ports and 100BaseFX ports to offer fiber optic support in select units.

10/100 ports are full/half duplex capable, using state-of-the-art Ethernet switching technology. Units can auto-negotiate the speed and flow control capabilities of TX port connections, configuring automatically. With this auto-sensing feature, there is no need to make wiring changes if connected equipment is upgraded. The switching technology automatically scales up or down to match specific network environments. A high-speed processor enables wire speed on all 100BaseTX ports simultaneously.

700-class switches with fiber optic support include one or more 100BaseFX ports for fast Ethernet uplink. These fiber based ports utilize industry standard ST or SC duplex connectors, depending on the model.

Each iteration of the 700 Ethernet switch supports a large range of MAC addresses, to support extremely sophisticated and complex network architectures. A 16-port unit, for example, can support up to 8,000 MAC addresses.

700-class switches offer several advanced management functions that can be configured using the COM port on the right side of the switch. These functions include:

– IGMP Snooping for intelligent forwarding and filtering of traffic
– VLAN switch segmentation
– QoS to prioritize network traffic and improve latency
– Trunking (link multiple physical ports together)
– Port Mirroring
– DHCP Server/Client (automated assignment of IP addresses)
– Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol to allow configuration in a ring or mesh topology
– N-View OPC Switch Monitoring

Rugged, IP20 enclosures and extended operating environmental specifications ensure each switch can persist in the harsh industrial environment. IP67 enclosures are available on select 100BaseTX models only (no fiber support with IP67 rating).
