7000-class Ethernet switches share many features with 700-class switches, with the main differences being: ports available, MAC address support, and support for Gigabit network application requirements. Like the 700 switch, 7000-class switches are managed. They can provide more control over the local area network with advanced features to control traffic.

Port configurations vary from 10 to 26 total ports. Models vary further with some combination of 10/100/1000BaseTX RJ-25 ports and SFP (Small Form-Factor Pluggable) copper and fiber ports for maximum deployment flexibility.

10/100/1000 ports are full/half duplex capable, using state-of-the-art Ethernet switching technology. Units can auto-negotiate the speed and flow control capabilities of TX port connections, configuring automatically. With this auto-sensing feature, there is no need to make wiring changes if connected equipment is upgraded. The switching technology automatically scales up or down to match specific network environments. A high-speed processor enables wire speed on all BaseTX ports simultaneously, and a maximum throughput of 16Gbps.

7000-class switches with fiber optic support include one or more 100BaseFX ports for fast Ethernet uplink. These fiber based ports utilize industry standard ST or SC duplex connectors, depending on the model.

Each iteration of the 7000 Ethernet switch supports a large range of MAC addresses, to support extremely sophisticated and complex network architectures. An 12-port unit, for example, can support up to 8,000 MAC addresses.

7000-class switches offer several advanced management functions that can be configured using N-View software. These functions include:

  • IGMP Snooping for intelligent forwarding and filtering of traffic
  • VLAN switch segmentation
  • QoS to prioritize network traffic and improve latency
  • Trunking (link multiple physical ports together)
  • Port Mirroring
  • DHCP Server/Client (automated assignment of IP addresses)
  • Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol to allow configuration in a ring or mesh topology
  • N-View OPC Switch Monitoring

Rugged enclosures and extended operating environmental specifications ensure each switch can persist in the harsh industrial environment.
